Is A Lenovo ThinkPad Netbook On The Way?

Well well, it looks like some tigers do change their stripes. A recent series of leaked photos (via Engadget) has the tech world thinking that a Lenovo ThinkPad netbook might be in the offing. The first leaked image looked like it might be a photoshop, but these latest photos seem to be legit. The supposed netbook in question is the Lenovo ThinkPad x200e, and it certainly looks...interesting.

Verizon's New Netbook: The Vaio P?

Verizon already carries three netbooks and, if this rumor from PhoneArena (via Electronista) is correct, a fourth is on the way. The Sony Vaio P netbook is said to be making its way to Big Red for a very low price; $300. The Vaio P retails for $850, which means quite a subsidy from Verizon, and quite a deal for their customers.

Sprint Launches The Dell Mini 10 Netbook

Alright, so the rumors were a day off. The Dell Mini 10 still launched today on Sprint's 3G network. Their press release makes this bog standard 10.1” Windows XP netbook sound much more exciting than it really is. The Mini 10 features an Atom Z520 processor, 160 GB HD, WiFi and 1.3 MP camera. That's about as 'run of the mill' as a netbook gets.

Kohjinsha PA: Half Tablet, Half Netbook, All Awesome

Tablets are all well and good, but sometimes you want a real keyboard and the increased utility of a netbook. And netbooks are fantastic, but sometimes you'd like to be able to just navigate on the fly with a touch of your fingers. If only there were some sort of portable gadget that could bridge the gap between netbook and tablet PC. Oh wait, what's this? According to Pocketables, there is!

Japanese manufacturer Kohjinsha has just announced the release of their PA series of netbook/tablets. These nifty little gadgets feature a 4.8" WSVGA touchscreen, 1.33 GHz Atom CPU, 512 MB of RAM, and a 32 GB SSD. The battery life for this sweet tabletbook is listed at an impressive 7.5 hours, and it features an SD slot and 1.3 MP webcam. Altogether, the Kohjinsha PA looks like one of the more impressive gadgets we've seen.

Verizon Wireless is set to add a new subsidized netbook to its line called the HP Mini 311-1037NR. The horribly named product will be offered with subsidized pricing in exchange for a two-year contract on a data plan.

Amazon has already listed the new Samsung N130 10.1-inch Windows 7 netbook for pre-order at the price of $350.99.

As reported yesterday the new dual boot Acer Aspire One D250 is already available for pre-order on Amazon. Just now Acer made the dual boot Acer Aspire One AOD250 netbook official.
The 10.1-inch Aspire One AOD250 with Android and Windows XP lets you switch between Android and Windows XP Home operating systems with just a click of a mouse.

I do not quite understand why Acer is launching a new netbook with Windows XP and not Windows 7. Only reason I can see here that the netbook is aimed at Android fans and the Windows OS is secondary. Read more

Mobinnova Beam: Netbook, Smartbook, Or Something Else?

Here's something neat. Smartbook manufacturer Mobinnova is working on an 8.9" mini-computer called the Beam. This tiny mobile runs on Windows CE, can playback HD video, and packs an Nvidia Tegra chipset. According to SlashGear this little mini-computer should be hitting in January of 2010.

When this smartbook (or netbook, or whatever you want to call it) launches, it'll be with an as-of-yet unnamed carrier subsidizing it. Mobinnova has stated that this device will not come with an app store, but that there may be downloadable apps and games for it upon release. Though the Beam comes with a GPS, a navigation app will not be included.

Acer is apparently sticking with the same model name as the current Windows XP netbooks when they move to Windows 7.
PCWorld reports that Acer will launch the Acer Aspire One D250 with Windows 7 next week.
The Aspire One D250 Windows 7 netbook has a 10.1-inch screen with 1,280 pixels by 720px resolution, 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU and a 160GB HDD. Read more

Netbook Shipments Grow as Notebook Market Revenue Declines

Many notebook makers are still bemoaning the fact that consumers are flocking to netbooks rather than buying more expensive notebook computers. Research firm DisplaySearch has reported that as netbook sales are climbing, overall market revenue for the notebook market is declining.

Netbooks gained significant growth in the firm's latest report with a quarterly growth of 37% and a year over year growth of 264%. The total notebook market was worth $26.4 billion, 10% more than the previous quarter. However, that number represents a 5% yearly decline compared to the same quarter last year. Read more

Windows 7 netbooks are set to swamp the market with the Windows 7 launch approaching. Asus has the 12-inch Asus Eee 1201N and Asus Eee 1201HA Windows 7 netbooks in the pipeline. Both new Asus netbooks appeared already on a leaked roadmap in August. Over the weekend the specifications leaked in Italy on eeepc.it, but have been removed. Adobe and NVIDIA Deliver Rich Web on Netbooks and Mobiles

NVIDIA and Adobe have announced that they are bringing rich web experiences to netbooks and mobile devices built using NVIDIA GPUs. Both of the companies have been working with the Open Screen Project to optimize and improve the new Flash Player 10.1 software to use GPU and graphics acceleration on a range of mobile internet devices.

NVIDIA customers like HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Acer, and more will be able to use Adobe 10.1 player on their machines. Adobe says that the use of a NVIDIA GPU and its 10.1 software will let users enjoy rich web applications and interactive content like HD video. Read more
